Come at 6:45 to enjoy a pre-concert conversation with Maestro Dewey Ehling, joined by soprano Nancy Beier.
The concert will be a gala performance of opera arias featuring three seasoned opera divas: Susan Roe, who thrilled us at last spring's concert, Nancy Beier, who sang opera in Europe for 30 years, and Sharon Annette Lancaster, who is a Seattle mezzo-soprano.
The evening will begin with the lively fourth movement of Borodin’s Symphony No. 2 in B Minor. The rest of the program will be all opera and ballet: the prelude to Bizet's Carmen, the Prelude and Mazurka from the ballet Coppelia by Delibes, a duet from Delibes' opera Lakmé, Puccini’s aria from Tosca, a charming aria from Gounod’s Romeo and Juliet, and the Carmen aria Seguidilla. Hollie Kaufman will lead the orchestra in five pieces of the ballet music from Gounod's opera Faust. The final number will feature the Three Divas in the wonderful trio from the Richard Strauss opera Der Rosenkavalier.
The Port Townsend Community Orchestra was formed in 1987. Orchestra members are your friends, neighbors, and co-workers--the people you see and work with every day in your community. They are also musicians who volunteer their time to play together each week, and their goal is to give you beautiful music to enjoy.
Port Townsend Community Orchestra offers four concerts a year: in October, December, February and April. There is no admission fee so that everyone, children included, can attend. The orchestra is supported by contributions from its patrons and from local businesses. Donations are also welcome at the door.
