Dewey Ehling

Dewey Ehling has been Music Director and Conductor of the Port Townsend Community Orchestra since 1995. He has lived in Port Angeles since 1986, where he was artistic director and conductor of the Port Angeles Light Opera Association for six years and director of worship and music at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. He plays oboe in the Port Angeles Symphony, the Port Angeles Symphony Chamber Orchestra, and Turtle Bluff Chamber Orchestra, and conducts the Peninsula Chamber Singers.

Dewey received a degree in music in his native state of Kansas and was assigned a post band in the U.S. Marine Corps. After serving four years in the USMC, he moved to Alaska and was in business there for 18 years. In Alaska, he conducted the Anchorage Youth Symphony, the Anchorage Community Chorus, the New Madrigal Singers, numerous operas and musicals, was president of the Alaska Festival of Music, and was honored by the governor as outstanding educator.

Highlights of his career include conducting his Anchorage Community Chorus at the National Convention of American Choral Directors, touring England and Scotland with his Chorus and appearing with them in Carnegie Hall and Avery Fischer Hall in Lincoln Center, and touring England, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Washington, D.C. and Alaska with the Anchorage Youth Symphony.

Dewey and his wife Lauretta have two children and a granddaughter.
